What makes Achigremach Cottage perfect for you?

Tucked away in the peaceful countryside Achigremach Cottage is the perfect setting to slow down and recharge away from the distractions of modern life.

You'll wake up to solitude, with views of the surrounding croft land where sheep and cattle graze or come down to drink from the Forss River running alongside the cottage.

This attractive stone cottage, built circa 1840, benefits from partial flagstone flooring and sunroom with stunning views over the Forss River. The lounge/dining area is bright with a cosy multifuel stove and patio doors which lead out to the rear garden. The well-equipped kitchen is ideal for preparing a welcoming meal after a day exploring. Located off the kitchen is the sunroom. The principle bedroom has a king-size bed and benefits from a wash hand basin and ensuite WC. Bedroom two offers a small double bed and full bathroom suite with bath and electric shower.

Inside, entertainment is covered with a selection of DVDS, books and games and a 32 inch TV with integrated DVD player.

Outside, enjoy the magnificent, uninterrupted river and rural views from the terrace and fully enclosed garden. Wildlife is in an abundance at the cottage. During the summer months Swifts make their annual pilgrimage to the barn to nest and roost, rewarding you with their distinctive call as they perform aerial acrobatics in the air above. We've even had deer and pheasants pass through our garden too!

We have a lockable barn that can be used to store bikes, wet-suits etc. The porch is also the perfect place for muddy boots and your wet gear for those rainy Caithness days.

It may be a surprise to you, but northern Scotland actually lies at the same latitude as Stavanger in Norway and Nunivak Island in Alaska, which means that you’re in with a good chance of spotting the ‘Mirrie Dancers’. Autumn and winter seasons, with their long periods of darkness and the frequency of clear nights, are probably the best time of the year to experience the auroral displays.

Achigremach Cottage is environmentally friendly, boasting top class green credentials including air source pump heating, solar panels, and located in the barn is a 2.3kw EV charger for you to charge your electric/hybrid vehicle ready for when you want to go and explore the local attractions, such as John O'Groats or the North Coast 500.

Thurso is approx. 5 miles away and is a hive of lovely traditional shops, cafes, bars, and restaurants. There are good coach and rail links south. There are leisure facilities within the town, which include a cinema and a swimming pool, and outdoor pursuits include surfing, fishing, and yachting. There is an airport and hospital in Wick, which is twenty minutes driving distance away.

Other things to note
The cottage has a no smoking policy

Highland Broadband are currently installing broadband in Caithness. Unfortunately, the projected date for connectivity in Westfield is mid 2026. In the interim WiFi connection is via Smarty sim card. Unfortunately, due it's remote location WiFi connection can be very intermittent and therefore, we cannot guarantee WiFi will be available for the duration of your stay. In addition due to the thickness of the stone walls 4G & 5G connectivity inside the cottage is not guaranteed. However, we have found that connectivity can sometimes be achieved in the sunroom and when seated next to the patio doors leading to the back garden.
